At Easter we hold an open-air service on the beach by the sea at about 1pm. This could be in Pissouri Bay or at another local beach, (watch announcements nearer the time for the venue and time).
The beach service has generated interest from onlookers, who may possibly be a bit perplexed to see people standing around a make-shift altar with the sun, (usually), beating down, battling wind-blown service sheets and ‘altar’ cloth! Their curiosity brings them nearer, and what nicer way to reach out to those who might not normally attend a church service? We are not confined by four walls, so they can walk away if/when they want to, although of course we hope they don’t!
This is a full Holy Eucharist service and has attracted not only onlookers but new congregants as well. It is a great form of outreach.

Unfortunately, this year’s weather for our Easter beach service was similar to last year, with clouds and high winds bringing chills to the congregation. However, that aside, the service was enjoyed by approximately 20 people, most of whom stayed for lunch at the adjacent restaurant afterwards.

Unlike previous Easter beach services, it was somewhat cloudy and very windy. Please note the stones holding down the cloths! Fr Ian had to compete with the noise of the wind and the roar of the waves. Needless to say, we could not light any Easter candles. For those who stayed after the service for lunch at the taverna, a very nice meal was had by all.
